Lisa Stout

Lisa was a high school counselor for nearly 20 years until she was selected to lead Project Next (formerly The San Marcos Promise) in 2019. With support from her dedicated staff and board, she has spearheaded efforts to develop and implement Future Centers at three San Marcos Unified School District high schools, grown community partnerships and revenue streams, and added robust programs for high school students. Lisa is proud to announce that Project Next will be expanding to serve students in Escondido Union High School District and Escondido Charter High School in the fall.

As a first-generation college student from a low income, single-parent household, Lisa can attest to the fact that education changes the trajectory of lives. She was fortunate to have adults in her life who didn’t allow her to fall through the cracks, especially her high school counselor (which inspired her to pursue a career as a high school counselor). Lisa attributes much of where she is today to these support systems and people who invested in her future. Lisa is grateful to pay it forward by bringing in resources and creating opportunities that impact student futures in partnership with cross-sector organizations.

"I am immensely proud of the profound impact we make through our work at Project Next, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our cherished community partners and supporters who make it all possible. True fulfillment in a career isn't just about fitting into a predefined mold; it's about carving out a space where one can align their passions, skills, and values with the needs of the world around them. At Project Next, our mission is to provide students with the clarity, confidence, and connections they need to build their brightest tomorrow.

Through our programs and initiatives, we equip students with the tools and resources they need to navigate their career paths with conviction and purpose. We empower them to 'own their next' by guiding them towards finding their rightful place in the world – a place where they can make meaningful contributions and embark on journeys of personal and professional growth.”

When Lisa is not shaping futures, she enjoys traveling, running, boxing and spending time with her husband of 26 years, Brady, who is a ceramics and sculpture teacher at San Marcos High School.
