Native to San Diego and raised in North County, Alejandro has a close connection to the community and its people. With close to 10 years working in the pk-16 education sector in roles like program advocate, academic tutor, peer mentor, intervention specialist, teachers aid, substitute teacher, part-time faculty, outreach coordinator and counselor; Alejandro strives to support youth on figuring out their identity and purpose.
Alejandro is a San Marcos High School alumni who benefited from the San Marcos Promise which led to him being accepted to CSU San Marcos despite his poor academic performance. At CSU San Marcos Alejandro did a full 360 degree turn and earned his BA in Liberal Arts and graduated with honors. Most recently, Alejandro earned his masters degree in Postsecondary Educational Leadership and Student Development from SDSU and aspires to return to SDSU to acquire a PhD in organizational policy and policy implementation. His long term goal is to become a consultant who supports policy implementation in the pk-16 education sector and also teach at a four year college.
Alejandro is passionate about working with underrepresented, underserved, and marginalized student populations. He finds joy in supporting and mentoring students who resemble his own lived experience. He currently holds a role in a well known student affairs professional organization called the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators for their knowledge community that supports formerly incarcerated and system impacted families. He is also involved with San Diego States CCEAL (Community College Equity Assessment Lab) as a member of a research collective known as SEMILLAS
